These so-called 'Birthers', the name given to proponents of a belief that Barak Obama is not a natural-born citizen of the United States, seem to be late to the natural-born citizen game. Where were they when the campaign was in full swing, when neither McCain nor Obama had been elected? The question should have been studied thoroughly at that time, because it could conceivably have resulted in the disqualification of one of the candidates - McCain.
Senator McCain was born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936, an unincorporated U.S. territory at the time. While there is no dispute that McCain was and is a citizen of the United States, the Constitution requires that the President be a "natural-born citizen". Birth in the Panama Canal Zone , or other U.S. territory, makes one a U.S. national and citizen, but not a natural-born citizen. Obama, on the other hand, was born in the U.S. proper (the state of Hawaii), and is therefore a natural-born citizen of the United States, as the Constitution requires.
